Brigid & Bran's - The NovelTea Lounge is a cozy and inviting space located in Westfield, NJ, where literature enthusiasts and social butterflies come together. Our establishment brings together the love for books and the joy of social gatherings in a unique way. We offer a delightful combination of a cafe, bookstore, and wine bar, creating a space where you can enjoy literature, beverages, and good company. Our team is passionate about curating a warm and inviting atmosphere for our guests, making every visit a memorable experience.

Prologue

Many years ago, in a town not too far from here, there was a girl who loved taking trips to the library. Her mother took great care in fostering her creativity and imagination, and made sure to feed her interest in tales of fantasy like Beatrix Potter and other age-appropriate stories. As the young girl grew, as young girls do, with the passing years, so too, did her imagination, and her undying love for stories of far-off places and vivid characters.

 

When the girl became a woman, she dreamt that one day she could give to many children, both young and old, the same opportunity her mother gave her to find a love and passion for reading tales of all kinds. So now, after many years, and many journeys taken, the woman's dreams have come true.

​​Brigid, also known as Brigit, is a goddess of pre-Christian Ireland. She appears in Irish mythology as a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann. Brigid is associated with spring, fertility, poetry, battle, and crafts. She is revered as one of the most important Irish deities, and rituals surrounding her continue to be upheld even today.

Brân, (Celtic: “Raven”), gigantic Celtic deity who figured in the Mabinogion (a collection of medieval Welsh tales) as “crowned king over this Island” (i.e., Britain). The most important aspect of Brân’s myth concerned his wondrous severed head. The ancient Celts worshiped the human head and believed it to be the seat of the soul, capable of independent life after the death of the body. They thought that it possessed powers of prophecy and was symbolic of fertility. They also believed that one of its functions was to provide entertainment in the other world.

This shop exists purely to fulfill the thirst for entertainment and escape.
